Prime Your Environment
Productivity comes down to preparedness
I'm looking to grow! If you know someone who'd benefit from this newsletter, please forward it to them or get them to sign up here.
I’m working from my parents’ house this week, something I do on a roughly every-other-month basis … and I’m thrown off every time.
If you don’t know me personally, you might not know that my parents live in the middle of nowhere. Like "15 minutes until the nearest stoplight" or "20 minutes until the first fast-food-chain spotting" middle of nowhere.
And I’m a city girl.
Every time I get to my parents’ house, I’m thrown off by the environment: the internet is slow, stores aren’t as accessible and the country noises are much different than horns and people on the sidewalk.
It takes me a bit to become readjusted and acclimated, but WHY? This is where I grew up, and I know what I’m getting into every time.
There’s a piece of advice from James Clear I’ll work to incorporate into my next visit: "Prime your environment to make the next action easy."
It’s not really a good excuse for me to feel thrown off while visiting when I know exactly what to expect. I’ve spent hours or days just adjusting to working at my parents’ place when I could have been preparing the week before, both physically and mentally, for the work environment in a much more efficient manner.

At the end of the day, productivity comes down to preparedness. (Tweet this.)
When I come to my parents’ house, I expect love, family meals and long walks with the best, funniest dog. Now, I’ll also visualize and anticipate my less-than-optimal work environment so I can hit the ground running.
Question: What’s one simple thing you can do to make your next action easier? Tweet me or reply to this email.
